About Yoga

The teachings of Yoga were first recorded years over 5,000 ago, and study of the ancient texts advises us that this holistic system can be practiced by everyone. It comes from the Sanskrit word Yuj, meaning to yoke or to join and translates as the 'union' between mind, body and spirit. In the West, the most widely taught form of yoga is Hatha Yoga where classes offer students exercises to stretch and align the body, to develop breath awareness and techniques, to relax and focus, allowing inner peace and bliss to be experienced.

Yoga offers us an approach to the mind, body, and spirit which embraces its unique and wonderful needs and potential, while recognising that we are not separate from anyone else. It can help us cope with the challenges of modern life and complement medical treatments and therapy for specific conditions. We learn to respect and honour our strengths and limitations, and through this we allow our inner teacher to guide us. Whether you are seeking help with managing stress, pre-natal exercises, or a forum to develop and enhance team-building through co-operation and connection with others, yoga offers an inclusive and expansive practise to invite the possibilities of the present moment in.

Many people are drawn to yoga for health and fitness reasons, or seek relief for a specific physical condition, and over time begin to experience other areas of their life unfolding and blossoming. Make yoga a part of your daily routine and you will become aware of subtle changes in your approach to life. Your yoga classes will help you begin to glimpse a state of inner peace and realise your True Nature.

Yoga is a way of living and being that makes real lasting happiness possible. Rather than being something to strive towards, it is a means of dismantling the barriers we have created around ourselves so we can come to the realisation of our essential wholeness and oneness with the Universe. There is a divine beauty and pure heart in each and every one of us. When we begin to peel away the layers of conditioning and negative thought patterns, we become able to reconnect with our inner selves.
